Before you choose a club for next season.

Before you choose a club for next season.

Usually professional players ask what are the things they should consider when they have to decide in which professional club they will continue their career.

Be realistic about your level.

What is my actual level of playing. Compare yourself with other players of your age or your similar skills of players on your position.

Don’t pretend to play for Chelsea or Real Madrid if you are 18 (unless you are not a new Messi or Ronaldo!). Talk to people which have something to do with your sport (coach, teammates) ask them for their opinion and maybe they can give you some advice, so you can have a better picture about your-self.

What do you prefer and where you are going.

When you get an offer from a club, ask around for information about the country, town and the place where you should go. Try to contact players which were part of the team last years, they will give you advice or information which will help you in your decision.

What is your main target: Money? Career? Place? If you have a bit more experience, you can prefer money and ask for a good contract. If you are a young player, you’ll prefer to go to a team to build your career and earn some experience. If you are a person which is planning an end of the professional career and have your years already, you can choose a calm place for you.

What team is it.

Who will be the coach of the team? Try to get some information about him from the players which have experience with him. Be sure that the coach will try to get as much information as possible about you too before he will take you to his team, so do the same.

Also try to get information: Is the club making team for next year to win the League? Cup? Or will it try to make the playoffs? It’s not the same if you have to play for the club where you are about to win almost all the games in the league or you will play in a team where they want to keep their team in the highest division, which means to win only a few games during the season.

The system or trainings are also important. How many times per day do they have training? Do they have also fitness training? Does the team use rehabilitation and massage? If it is possible and the distance is not too big, ask to visit the place before you sign the contract to see where you will live next year. If not, ask for a few photos of the area where you will be.

Economic situation

Economic situation in the country has to be considered, also what was the economic situation in the club in the previous season. Did the payers get paid or not? Is the club owning some money to players? What do the ex-players say about that, try to find out about it as much information as possible. Sometimes the players don’t get paid and don’t have the money to pay the airplane ticket to come back home, so be careful. Of course you do not want fall into same situation as players in the last seasons. If you don´t care about the money and you only want to play on the highest level and gain some experience maybe this is a way how to touch a higher level.

Try to get as much information as you can and think what is important for you. It´s not always easy. It will never go that easy as you might think. You will always find some obstacles which you will have to solve but that´s the only way how you will gain new experience and you will move forward. Just don´t be afraid and you have to be brave.
